Andreas was born in Bad Saarow, a small town near Berlin, Germany. Between 1994 and 1998 he studied economics and took a Master’s degree in business administration. It was a series of coincidences that got him interested into graphic design and typography: his marketing professor’s interest in fonts and desktop publishing; his part-time jobs at the marketing department of local paper Lausitzer Rundschau and at Inpetho Media Production. Since 2000 he has been an independent graphic designer, and in 2003 he launched his astype font label to release his typefaces. As part of the Fust & Friends circle, he digitized Alarm by Heinz König (1928) and Presto by Helmut Matheis (1970). Andreas continues building a remarkable collection of stencil font revivals, text and script fonts at his AStype foundry, and has also specialized in fonts for the gaming industry.
